Dr. Robert Reid is gebore in Bloemfontein en het sy skool loopbaan in Pretoria voltooi. Sy voorgraadse en nagraadse studies word voltooi aan die Universiteit van Pretoria. Hy het ook ‘n Nagraadse kwalifikasie van die Kollege van Chirurgie (Oftalmologie) S.A en is ‘n Genoot van die Royal College of Ophthalmology in London.
